- RequiredEasy training or rest only for 48 hours before — no intervals, races or heavy gym work.
- RequiredNormal-to-high carbohydrate intake for 48 hours; do not arrive fasted.
- RequiredCarbohydrate-based meal 2–3 hours before; nothing but water in the last 2 hours.
- RequiredNo alcohol for 24 hours; no caffeine or pre-workout in the 3–4 hours before.
- RequiredNo hand cream or lotion on the day (blood samples from earlobe or fingertip).
- Strongly recommendedTell us 'bike' or 'run' in your booking notes, and bring your own bike if possible.
- Strongly recommendedBring your heart-rate strap and power meter / footpod if you have one.
- Food
- Keep carbohydrate intake normal to high for 48 hours before — never start a low-carb diet or fast before INSCYD, because low muscle glycogen changes your VLaMax and fat/carb results. Eat a familiar carbohydrate-based meal, low in fat and fibre, 2–3 hours before. No gels, bars or sugary drinks in the last 2 hours (water is fine).
- Hydration
- Arrive well hydrated. Drink water steadily through the day; bring a bottle for the session.
- Exercise
- Rest or easy training only for 48 hours before. This test depends on genuinely maximal short efforts, so any residual fatigue will understate your anaerobic capacity and distort your whole metabolic profile.
- Caffeine / stimulants
- No caffeine, pre-workout or other stimulants in the 3–4 hours before — caffeine changes lactate production and heart rate. Keep it the same for every repeat test.
- Alcohol
- No alcohol in the 24 hours before the test.
- Medication
- Take your prescribed medication as normal. Tell the test leader what you have taken and when, as some medication (for example beta-blockers, asthma inhalers, antihistamines) changes heart rate or breathing and must be recorded with your results. Do not change or stop medication for a test.
- Clothing
- Bike or run training kit. No hand cream or lotion on the day.
- Arrival
- Arrive 10 minutes early so we can weigh you, fit your heart-rate strap and go through the protocol calmly.
- Other
- Cancellation and rescheduling: cancel free of charge with more than 72 hours' notice (full refund). Reschedule free of charge with more than 48 hours' notice. Inside 48 hours the appointment is treated as a late cancellation and the fee is not refundable.
What to bring: Bike test: ideally bring your own bike — we mount it on our calibrated direct-drive trainer so results match your real position (a calibrated lab bike is available; then bring cycling shoes and pedals and your saddle height). Run test: running shoes you train in. Always bring training kit, a towel, a water bottle, your chest-strap heart-rate monitor if you have one, and your power meter or footpod if you train with one. Please tell us 'bike' or 'run' in your booking notes.
